This course will expose learners to many new ideas in the field of neurodevelopmental and intellectual disabilities (NDD/IDD) including the neurodiversity paradigm. Participants will explore themes of disability rights, neurodiversity, language and terminology related to neurodevelopmental and intellectual disabilities (NDD/IDD), myths and stereotypes surrounding autism, ADHD, and other NDDs, and services and supports to improve lives.
Participants will:
- Define what neurodiversity means
- Learn how to better support the NDD/IDD communities through practical applications
- Gain the skills to effectively communicate with NDD/IDD individuals
Through understanding the history and rights of the NDD/IDD community the learner will have a better understanding of current and ongoing issues of the disability community.
