This course explores the effects of trauma and secondary trauma on social service workers, along with the science behind compassion fatigue and the concept and methods of self-care. Focusing on four key areas–the mind, the body, the spirit, and the heart–workers will learn key strategies for providing and taking space for self-care in specific areas of their lives.
While learning the science and methodologies of trauma and self-care, participants will participate in a variety of guided art projects and receive hands-on experience in practicing self-care. Participants will leave the class having practiced self-care and with a plan for implementing self-care in their everyday lives.
