Growth and Development

Knowledge of growth and development permeates activities in child welfare. This workshop presents models of development that can be applied when working with parents and/or children involved with child welfare.

 Topics include:

  • Common theories of development
  • Normal human growth
  • Developmental delays
  • Sexual development and behavior
  • Moral development
  • Physical and neurological growth
  • Adolescent brain development and implications for practice
  • Implications of trauma for development

Participants learn to recognize normal growth and development as well as concerns that require follow-up. The information presented will help parent partners adjust communication styles for the varying levels of development and assist parents in caring for their children
