This interactive training explores sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression (SOGIE) from a youth lens, while providing practitioners with comprehensive information, tools, and resources for engaging lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, and asexual or ally (LGBTQIA+) youth.
After attending this training, participants will have increased capacity to:
- Engage LGBTQIA+ children and youth with the same care, respect and love that each and every child deserves
- Describe concepts, terminology, and rationale related to SOGIE and
- Differentiate between sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and gender expression
- Improve self-knowledge to reduce the chance of any inner bias impacting vulnerable children and families
- Uphold the rights of foster youth related to SOGIE enacted by AB 175
- Assess how to identify and support specific needs of LGBTQIA+ youth
- Create safer and more supportive environments for LGBTQIA+ youth
