Engaging with Families Experiencing Domestic Violence

This training invites learners to explore how to effectively support families experiencing domestic violence while centering child safety. Through a comprehensive framework, participants will learn how to team with the survivor parent or caregiver and engage the parent or caregiver using unsafe behaviors in the family context.

This course is designed to strengthen child welfare case management services by equipping participants with tools to:

  • Collaborate with families in ways that reflect their unique needs and acknowledge the intersections of domestic violence and systemic oppression
  • Prioritize the safety of adult and child survivors in all aspects of engagement
  • Empower survivors by shifting decision-making power to the family
  • Identify and challenge biases commonly encountered in domestic violence cases
  • Appreciate approaches that hold perpetrators accountable for their actions and their impact on child safety
