The primary goal of creating a curriculum to ensure disability compliance and workplace inclusion is to create training and development environments that are accessible, equitable and responsive to the needs of all individuals, including those with disabilities. This requires an approach that respects and addresses the diverse needs and abilities of each training participant.
In this session, curriculum developers will:
- Reflect on personal obstacles when instructing individuals with disabilities
- Review the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) core principles and the elements that align with the UDL principles
- Learn how to adapt content by utilizing multiple formats to accommodate various learning preferences and needs
- Determine how to ensure environmental accessibility (e.g., physical spaces, lighting, time, etc.)
- Examine and practice the basics of accessible materials and activities, (e.g., PowerPoint decks, handout materials, and classroom activities)
- Discuss how to foster a learning and development culture that emphasizes respect for diversity, where participants with disabilities feel valued and included
- Practice these diverse contexts to promote generalization of skills
