The Core Practice Model: Engaging Families

Full involvement of children/youth, families and communities in the Child and Family Team is not possible without engaging them from first contact and throughout their involvement with child welfare services and mental health services. Engaging others includes respect, listening, sharing information and ensuring voice, choice and preference.

Participants will:

  • Understand the effect of trauma on engagement of children/youth and families with professionals
  • Share information with children/youth and families that enables them to be full participants on the Child and Family Team
  • Adjust engagement approaches so that they are sensitive and responsive to cultural differences
  • Ensure family voice, choice and preferences throughout the process

As a result of this workshop, participants will be better able to engage children/youth, families and others in the Child and Family Team.
