This half-day course has been designed to highlight the importance of maintaining confidentiality and preventing the conflict of interest within the field of human services. This course will help participants broaden their understanding of what constitutes confidential information, personal identifiable information (PII), how HIPPA is applied, and what is meant by a 'need-to-know' basis.
Through this course, participants will discuss the concept of public trust and will be asked to consider the importance of discretion and perception related to their professional roles. Additional discussion will focus on confidentiality related to technology and the use of social media, and how to promote an approach that emphasizes personal responsibility when it comes to safeguarding client confidentiality and representing the organization. The transfer of learning will be supported through analyzing scenarios related to confidentiality and conflict of interest.
