CC 3.5 Instructor-Led Skills-Based Training for Trainers

This curriculum provides Common Core 3.5 trainers with skills to move from being a content expert to a facilitator of peer and adult learning in the classroom setting. Skills-based learning will be modeled to demonstrate the training experience for participants. Skills-based classroom learning will provide a bridge between knowledge obtained from the eLearnings and development of skills by providing practice opportunities. By the end of this training, participants will be able to recognize how adult learning principles support the adult learner in obtaining and retaining knowledge and skills in the classroom into application in the field.

Learning Objectives

KNOWLEDGE:

  •  The trainee will be able to recognize the difference between the roles of trainer as content expert and trainer as facilitator of learning.
  •  The trainee will be able to describe how to establish an environment that is inclusive, equitable and embraces the diversity of the classroom, as well as reflect on their own lived experiences and unique learning styles.
  •  After viewing a teaching demonstration, the trainee will be able to name the benefits of experiential and small group learning activities.
  •  The trainee will be able to name solution-focused strategies to use when faced with resistance or challenging behaviors in the classroom.

SKILLS:

Using a structured activity, the trainee will be able to:

  • Explain a selected skill (active listening);
  • Demonstrate the skill (active listening);
  •  Facilitate trainee practice of the skill (active listening);
  • Provide constructive feedback (active listening), and;
  • Debrief a skills-based learning experience (active listening).

The trainee will practice specific skills for active listening, aimed at creating a psychologically safe learning environment.
