Bridging the Gap between Probation and Human Services

A key component of the remarkable work of the human services agency is achieved through the collaboration with other departments. During this course, we’ll examine the similarities and differences between the two agencies, and how we can overcome current or potential barriers to “bridge the gap,” creating lasting partnerships to serve our clients. This course takes into account research obtained through interviews with both probation officers and human services social workers who have experience working with each other; it is sure to leave you with a better understanding of Probation, answers to common questions, and assumptions demystified.

This course includes instruction, group work, exercises, opportunities for reflection and the practice of skills and strategies to promote the adaptation of a new perspective with regards to collaboration.

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify at least four similarities and differences between the two agencies and understand how the two systems can work together efficiently
  • Have a general understand of the Integrated Core Practice Model (ICPM) and be able to identify the core components of ICPM and how they relate to collaboration within the two agencies
  • Identify at least three collaboration strategies that could assist in improving communication between the two agencies
