APS Simulation Training: The Effects of Social Isolation

This groundbreaking simulation training invites participants to step into the world of Frank, a 72-year-old widower, to experience firsthand the profound impact of social isolation on older adults. Through immersive storytelling and guided reflection, learners will witness how loneliness, loss and limited access to support systems can affect physical and emotional well-being.

Simulation Format

In the first module, participants embody Frank as he navigates life after his wife’s passing, encountering challenges such as declining health, strained family relationships and reduced community engagement. The second module revisits Frank’s story—but this time with meaningful interventions and support, showing how connection and community can restore health, hope and purpose.

An instructor-led segment complements the simulation, exploring the foundations of social isolation, its health implications, and strategies for prevention and response.
