An Advanced T4T Course: Cultivating A Growth Mindset Culture in The Training Room

Current research suggests that new staff who approach their work with a growth mindset do better both in the training room as well as on the job. Through engaging demonstrations and experiential exercises, this course builds awareness of the benefits of cultivating a growth mindset culture when training staff. Trainers will learn ways to be a role model for growth, emphasizing the impact of beliefs, focus, effort, challenges, mistakes and feedback in the process of staff learning new information, values and skills.

This workshop includes instruction, opportunities for reflection and practice of skills and strategies designed to enhance their training skillsets.

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define and identify both fixed and growth mindsets.
  • List four key ingredients to having a growth mindset.
  • Discuss the use of the Induction Training Performance Assessment Matrix in the context of cultivating a growth mindset.
  • Describe the link between a participant’s mindset and their potential for successful completion of training goals.
  • Articulate how learning and building skillsets is possible with direct instruction, practice, feedback and effort.
  • Affirm that self-talk messages are clues to where a trainee may be stuck in the learning process.
  • Practice differentiating between fixed and growth mindset descriptions and self-talk messages.
  • Listen for fixed self-talk and practice reframing the message in growth mindset language.
  • Strategize ways to facilitate a trainee’s shift toward favoring a growth mindset in the training room and on the job.
  • Document direct application transfer notes on action plan.
