This comprehensive training will help child welfare social workers recognize the signs, indicators, and functional impairments commonly utilized in the diagnosis of substance use disorders (SUD) to identify and connect vulnerable children and families to qualified professionals for further assessment and treatment as needed.
After attending this training, participants be able to:
- Apply key aspects of trauma-informed approaches and recognize the impacts of SUD in the family system.
- Understand stigma’s relationship with SUD and the impact of personal bias in the recognition and treatment of SUD.
- Understand adolescent risk and the developmental stages of SUD.
- Recognize prevalently abused substances and the common indicators of substance misuse.
- Understand the biological components involved in the development of SUD, and why addiction is classified as a medical disease.
- Value ongoing SUD education and interdisciplinary collaboration to better serve individual community members and families.
