Engaging with older adults can add a great deal of stress for professional helpers due to challenging behaviors outside the client’s control. This population will frequently resist an invitation to discuss these behaviors to help them be able to remain safely in their homes. Social workers and other staff who work with this population willbegin to understand the observed sources of resistance and learn effective tolls to support them in engagement. In this workshop, we will identify, examine, and learn to respond effectively to a variety of challenging behaviors.
