HSELP - Human Services Emerging Leaders Program

Course Overview

This program introduces leadership concepts and practices to all staff—regardless of position or title—to help them develop the skills to lead from where they are. The program aims to broaden participants’ perspectives, build practical leadership skills and promote the personal growth necessary to drive organizational change.

Learning Objectives

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Shift from a bystander perspective to a leadership perspective
  • Expand their leadership skills and sharpen political acumen
  • Strengthen professional networks and collaborative capacity
  • Create and implement an action plan for continuous leadership development
  • Apply leadership strategies to build and sustain systems of care that improve health, wellness and quality of life for clients and teams

Modules

This program is organized into four distinct modules.

Module 1: Introduction to Leadership — Focus on Self-Awareness

Topics include:

  • Discovering your DiSC style
  • Understanding your reactions to coworkers
  • Building more effective work relationships
  • Increasing self-knowledge, including how you respond to conflict, what motivates you, what causes you stress and how you solve problems
  • Improving working relationships by recognizing the communication needs of team members’ behaviors
  • Facilitating better teamwork and minimizing team conflict
  • Developing stronger client engagement skills by identifying and responding to communication styles
  • Managing more effectively by understanding the dispositions and priorities of employees and team members
  • Becoming a more self-aware, well-rounded and effective leader

Module 2: Communication Skills and Collaboration in the Community

Topics include:

  • Reducing ineffective communication
  • Sending messages that express thoughts clearly and directly
  • Determining which communication medium best serves the needs in varying situations
  • Applying tools and strategies for crucial conversations

Module 3: High-Performance Teams

Topics include:

  • Identifying the characteristics of high-performance teams
  • Understanding how trust forms the foundation of team success
  • Assessing your role as a team leader and team player

Module 4: Sustaining Transformational Change

Topics include:

  • Exploring the neuroscience of change
  • Identifying different types of change
  • Learning from change thought leaders and models
  • Engaging in facilitated discussion on the effects of change on individuals and teams

Fee Details: The enrollment fee for this 4-day class is $1190.00 per participant or .28 training units for those utilizing their county contract. This fee includes quality instruction from subject-matter expert(s), research-based curricula and all digital course materials.

Training Format: This program will be offered via remote learning using Zoom. Login information will be provided after your enrollment is processed.

To be officially dropped from the class, please notify us at least 10 business days prior to the training start date to drop a class and cancel the billing, or request a refund of fees paid, less than a $30 processing fee (no exceptions).
