Emerging Leaders Development Program

This program is designed to introduce leadership concepts and practices to all staff to support their development of skills to lead where they are, regardless of position or title. Program goals include broadening the perspective of participants, building concrete skills for effective leadership, and promoting the kind of personal change and growth needed to lead and move organizations in new directions.

The learning objectives of this program start with shifting from a bystander perspective to a leadership perspective, and include expanding leadership skills, sharpening political acumen, networking and developing the skills to create and execute an action plan for lifelong leadership learning and growth. Ultimately, leaders will be equipped with the tools to develop and sustain systems of care that foster positive outcomes for internal and external clients in their efforts to achieve improved health, wellness and quality of life.

Module 1: Introduction to Leadership: Focus on Self Awareness

Topics include:

  • Discovering your DiSC® styles
  • Understanding your reactions to coworkers
  • Building more effective work relationships
  • Increasing your self-knowledge—how you respond to conflict, what motivates you, what causes you stress and how you solve problems
  • Improving working relationships by recognizing the communication needs of team members behaviors
  • Facilitating better teamwork and minimize team conflict
  • Developing stronger sales skills by identifying and responding to customer styles
  • Managing more effectively by understanding the dispositions and priorities of employees and team members
  • Becoming more self-knowledgeable, well-rounded and effective leader

Module 2: Communication Skills and Collaboration in the Community

Topics include:

  • Improving your ability to communicate clearly
  • Reducing ineffective communications
  • Sending messages that express their thoughts directly
  • Determining which communications medium best serves the needs in varying situations
  • Introduction to crucial conversations
  • Introduction to tools of the changing nature of conversation: invitation, assembly, questions

Module 3: High-Performance Teams

Topics include:

  • Identifying high-performance teams

  • Examining how TRUST is the basis of HPT
  • Assessing your role as a team leader and team player

Module 4: Sustaining Transformational Change

Topics include:

  • Examining the neuroscience of change
  • identify types of change
  • introduction to change thought leaders
  • overview of change models
  • facilitated discussion on the effects of change in people

Fee Details: The program enrollment fee is 0.17 Training Units per person for those utilizing their county contract. If not using a county contract, the fee is $672 per person. The fee for this 4-day program includes soft copy materials.

Training Format: This program will be offered online using Zoom. Login information will be provided after your enrollment is processed.

Enrollment Restriction: Attendance in every module is strongly encouraged. Attendance in the first module of the program is required. Failure to attend the first module of the program will result in a non-refundable, discontinued program enrollment.

Please notify us at least 10 business days prior to the training start date to drop a class and cancel the billing, or request a refund of fees paid, less a $30 processing fee (no exceptions). If you have questions, please contact us at (530) 757-8538 or at human@ucde.ucdavis.edu.

Substitutions can be done with a 48-hour minimum notice prior to the training start date. A 48-hour notice is needed to get all updated information processed.
