Consumer and Family Driven Service Models

This workshop examines the systems approach to working with families, and emphasis is placed on techniques to improve family communication and family involvement. This workshop will provide important strategies to shift from a traditional service model to a consumer and family driven service model by utilizing motivational interviewing and team building techniques.

Topics include:

  • Explaining family systems practice and the importance in service delivery in the elderly community
  • Identifying steps to engage the family in conversations regarding the elderly’s care
  • Reviewing motivational interviewing techniques to engage families to take an active role in the lives of the elderly in the community
  • Exploring strategies to build a team with the family to become partners in the care of the consumer
