Services overview
Workforce development agencies serve many of the same clients as social services agencies. In the process of assisting job seekers, workforce development staff address many of the same issues as human services staff, including client motivation and overcoming barriers to employment. And workforce development leaders and supervisors work in an environment similar to their counterparts in social services.
The Center has delivered customized case management training sponsored by workforce development agencies. In addition, workforce development staff in many agencies have participated in Center training sponsored by other agencies.
Audiences
As with other Center training, workforce development training can involve participants from a single organization or multiple organizations in a county or region. Programs can be used to:
- train new workers or expand the knowledge and skill of existing workers
- foster collaboration
- implement new practice models
- introduce new delivery systems
- develop a consistent body of knowledge and common values within and across departments, programs, units and staff levels
Customization
Courses can be offered as described or adjusted to meet the needs of training participants and sponsoring agencies. Customization takes into consideration:
- experience levels and program backgrounds of trainees
- training objectives
- performance gaps training should address
- whether or not training is mandated
- agency circumstances and practices related to the topic
Course topics and activities are adjusted to tailor training to the agency and audience.

Transfer of learning
Center training incorporates content and delivery methods that facilitate transfer of learning from the training room to the job. Center staff also can work with agencies on training overviews for supervisors and managers as well as other pre- and post-training activities that promote transfer of learning.
