Elder and Dependent-Adult Abuse Investigations
One or two days This workshop examines legal requirements and casework techniques used in assessing elder and dependent-adult abuse. Topics include * assessing the referral * making collateral contacts * assessing the need for emergency services * making the first contact and gaining access * establishing trust and credibility * interviewing techniques for clients, caregivers and abusers * recognizing risk factors for maltreatment * investigation tools, including the internet * assessing injuries * collecting data * documentation * developing service plans * using the "gatekeeper" concept * working with police and prosecutors Participants learn to assess and effectively intervene in cases of adult abuse and the techniques for preparing written reports of abuse based on concrete observations and statements.
